We like the genetics of Mangalitsa-Large Black-Berkshire mixed heritage breed hogs. They do well in an outdoor environment. They are friendly and gentle in temperament. They have curly coats that help moderate temperature and prevent sunburn. Their well-marbled, tender meat is a cut above the rest with its reddish color and rich flavor.
Commercial pigs are raised in a fully indoor environment. They live in huge warehouses with concrete floors, eating cheap grains their whole lives. In contrast, our pigs are raised 100% outside. They root, graze, and wallow; soak up sunlight; eat non-GMO feed; and enjoy table scraps and garden veggies. Pastured pork has high levels of healthy omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D.
We sell pork by the individual cut or in bulk.
For a pack of bacon or pork chops or a pulled pork roast, stop by the farm.
If you want to buy in bulk, you can save a significant 20-25%!
For bulk orders:
$4.25/lb hanging weight for a half
$4/lb hanging weight for a whole
$2/lb hanging weight to the processor, for a half or whole
We use Jones Meats, located 15 minutes from our farm.
All-in with the deposit, raising fee, and processing fee, you can expect to pay about $730 for a half hog or $1350 for a whole hog. Again, you would pay 20-25% more if you bought all of these cuts individually.
You simply pay one check to Seldom Creek Farm. We take care of all communication with the processor for you - setting up a processing date, cutting instructions, and bill payment.
Note: total cost is an estimate only and will vary due to the unique hanging weight of each hog. Hanging weight might be +/- 30 pounds, which would change the total cost accordingly.
